California Superintendent of Public Instruction Candidate Series with Tony Thurmond
Friday, July 13
10 - 11:30 a.m.
With the statewide primary election in the rearview mirror and the general election upon us, the L.A. Area Chamber invites you to the second part of our Superintendent of Public Instruction (SPI) series with candidate Tony Thurmond.
Thurmond has served as a member of the California State Assembly since 2014. Prior to joining the Assembly, Thurmond served on the Richmond City Council from 2005 to 2008 and the West Contra Costa Unified School District from 2008 to 2012. Thurmond notes that he takes pride in fighting for California children and has made them his top priority.
In partnership with the California Department of Education, the SPI is responsible for enforcing education laws and regulations, and for continuing to reform and improve public elementary school programs, secondary school programs, adult education, some preschool programs and child care programs for more than 7 million children and young adults in more than 9,000 schools.
Please join us for a great opportunity to meet the second candidate in this year's SPI race and discuss our state's most pressing education needs.
