Center for Innovation & Technology
The L.A. region has been a hub of innovation and commerce since its earliest days; and throughout that time, the Chamber has played a significant role in developing new industries and supporting innovators.
The Chamber’s Center for Innovation & Technology uses its business, government and community leadership to drive the effort to grow L.A.’s technology economy through startup development, tech education partnerships and civic engagement.
Recognizing the need to build a more robust technology sector in the Los Angeles area, the Chamber partnered with the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) technical advisors, the L.A. Regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network, to form Bixel Exchange. The goal: to connect the region's growing technology sector to the diverse and talented individuals in L.A.
Today, Bixel Exchange's efforts have grown to include opening tech career pathways for diverse youth while continuing to empower entrepreneurs to create a more prosperous L.A. This is done through thought leadership events and two programs:
L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline
The L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline connects low-income, diverse students to careers in the fast-growing technology sector. The pipeline works with more than 60 of L.A.’s top tech employers to connect more than 4,000 diverse, traditionally underrepresented high school and community college students to work-based learning opportunities (company tours, classroom guest speakers, immersive workshops), internships and job placements. Companies who have taken interns include Snap Inc., Boingo Wireless, mitú and Tastemade.
Startup LAunch tech SBDC
Powered by the SBA and Los Angeles Regional SBDC Network, Startup LAunch arms ventures with non-equity and no-cost incubation to launch and sustainably scale their companies. Partnering with the larger Los Angeles Regional SBDC, enables Startup LAunch to serve the startup community in L.A., Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
