"Made in China 2025" was launched as China's strategic plan to transfer its labor-intensive manufacturing economy to an innovation/advanced manufacturing model. 
 
China's plans to dominate advanced industries like robotics, advanced information technology, aviation and new energy vehicles has come under increasing scrutiny and criticism by the Trump Administration and has become a core target for the Administration's proposed tariffs on Chinese imports.  
 
Please join the Global Initiatives Council to hear from Brian Peck, director of Transnational Law and Business Center at USC Gould School of Law, as he sheds light on this controversial plan, including whether this is a real threat to America's future innovation and high-tech competitiveness and/or a business opportunity for U.S. companies.
      
 
The Global Initiatives Council works to create employment opportunities throughout Southern California by increasing exports, imports and foreign investment for companies of all sizes, and for the communities in which they conduct business.

The USC Center for Transnational Law and Business promotes world-class policy analysis and debate to help international businesses navigate the complex matrix of the various trade and compliance policies around the world. 

Peck served as deputy director in charge of international affairs and business development for the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). He also served at the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) where his responsibilities included:
-Senior director for Intellectual property (IP)
-Lead negotiator for the IP chapters in several free trade agreements
-Co-chair of the U.S.-Japan Information Technologies Working Group
-Leading bilateral talks with several Asian countries under the World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations to liberalize international markets for services
-Leading the U.S. delegation at the WTO TRIPS Council meetings on IP matters
