02.06.18 Digitalization as a Route to Economic Inclusion in L.A.

The Chamber was joined by the Brookings Institution and Microsoft for Digitalization as a Route to Economic Inclusion in L.A., a discussion with leaders in the L.A. business, civic and nonprofit community on opportunities and gaps in L.A.'s workforce. Mark Muro, senior fellow and policy director for Brookings Institution presented the findings from his latest report, "Digitalization and the American Workforce" which focused on the L.A. area. "The L.A. region should adopt two digital workforce training priorities: Expand and widen the high-digital IT talent pipeline, and increase basic digital literacy, especially among underrepresented groups," said Muro.

02.02.18 Health Care Council with L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas

Supervisor Mark-Ridley Thomas joined the Chamber's Health Care Council for an in-depth discussion on County health and hospital services, homelessness and cannabis. Supervisor Ridley-Thomas elaborated on the work being done through Measure H funding and County homelessness issues, saying, "We have to dig deep in terms of our imagination and values." The Supervisor added that the business community should "raise expectations of officials who say homelessness is a priority" and "hold them accountable."

01.31.18 130th annual Inaugural Dinner

Mayor Eric Garcetti, L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson, and 1,500 business and civic leaders came together to honor community leadership during the Chamber's 130th annual Inaugural Dinner. Held at the new Intercontinental Los Angeles Downtown Hotel, the event celebrated the installation of 2018 Chamber Board Chair Michelle Kerrick, Deloitte, and thanked outgoing Board Chair Steve Nissen, NBCUniversal. The Chamber also presented Amb. Vilma Martinez with the Civic Medal of Honor, AC Martin Chairman & CEO Chris Martin with the Distinguished Business Leader Award, and Southern California Gas Company with the Corporate Leadership Award.

01.24.18 16th Annual Taste of the Chamber

More than 175 people joined the Chamber for our 16th annual Taste of the Chamber Mixer at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood. The event featured complimentary food and drinks from member restaurants and caterers from across L.A. 01.16.18 Chamber's Nancy Olson honored as a 2018 Impact-Maker to Watch

Nancy Olson, vice president of the Chamber's Center for Leadership, was recently honored by the City Impact Lab as one of 18 Impact-Makers to Watch. The award is an annual distinction for local leaders who are doing foundational work to make a positive impact in L.A. with significant results. Honorees are designated by L.A. leaders, including the City Council and Board of Supervisors. Congratulations, Nancy!

The first Chamber Board Meeting of the year included the passing of the gavel from 2017 Chamber Board Chair Steve Nissen to 2018 Board Chair Michelle Kerrick and the presentation of the Chamber Board Member of the Year Award to Ed Casey, the Chamber Ambassador of the Year Award to Alex Perez, and the Employee Champion for Life Work Harmony Award to Green Hasson Janks.

The Council was joined by two Metro executives -- Senior Executive Officer Manjeet Ranu with the Countywide Planning and Development Department, and Deputy Chief Innovation Officer Nadine Lee from the Office of Extraordinary Innovation -- to discuss what Metro is working on for 2018.

12.14.17 Bixel Exchanges' Entrepreneur-in-Residence Demo Day

The Chamber's Bixel Exchange hosted a demo day for six startups belonging to their pilot Executive-In-Residence (EIR) program. Participating startups included, a restaurant recommendation chatbot; Lawgood, a legal advice app; Muvn, an innovative moving company app; and Patricglo, a real estate intelligence platform. Each startup pitched their companies in front of Bixel Exchange partners and members of the tech community, ending with a Q&A session with the audience. 12.14.17 Education & Workforce Development Council

The Chamber's Education and Workforce Development Council recognized Keith S. Parker who is retiring from the University of California, Los Angeles after 36 years of service. At UCLA, Parker provided critical leadership in engaging the local civic and business community in his role as assistant vice chancellor for Government and Community Relations. Parker, a Chamber board member and active Council participant, was presented with a pair of brass cufflinks worn by former L.A. Mayor Tom Bradley, another Bruin leader who left an indelible mark on this city. Congratulations, Keith!

12.08.17 Accenture Pancakes & Politics with CSU Chancellor Tim White

The Accenture Pancakes & Politics speaker series wrapped up 2017 with Cal State University Chancellor Tim White. Each year, the 23 CSU campuses produce over 100,000 graduates, the vast majority of which stay to work in California. The Chancellor discussed upcoming budget challenges, the impacts of federal tax reform and the strides the system has made in increasing female leadership.
