On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Center for Education Excellence & Talent Development (UNITE-LA) co-facilitated a discussion on regional talent development at the eighth annual California Economic Summit in Fresno, CA.

11.06.19 State of L.A. Infrastructure

The Chamber and guests met with leaders from the public and private sector for the sixth annual State of L.A. Infrastructure. The half-day summit featured leaders throughout the region to focus upon smart cities, resilient infrastructure and the strategies that Los Angeles will need to employ to be prepared.

11.05.19 Meeting with Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S.

His Excellency Thani Thongphakdi, Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S, visited the Chamber to meet with President & CEO Maria S. Salinas and Board Chair Jerry Neuman to discuss Thailand's economic policies and trade and investment opportunities in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), ACMES and ASEAN countries.

The Chamber held its annual Board of Directors Retreat at Terranea Resort. Attendees heard from a slate of speakers, including: Gary Segura, Dean of the Luskin School of Public Affairs at UCLA; Former CNN Analyst Carol Costello; Elise Buik, CEO of the United Way of Greater Los Angeles; Jennifer Kim from the City of Los Angeles; Dr. Francisco Rodriguez, Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District; Jerry Neuman, 2019 Board Chair and Chair of Home for Good; and Dr. Jerry Green, Pacific Council for International Policy.

Phil Ansell, who leads the County’s Homeless Initiative, provided oversight and guidance on deploying Measure H funds for 21 interconnected strategies to prevent and combat homelessness.

The Chamber's World Trade Week (WTW) Education Committee participated as an exhibitor at a premier career discovery event hosted by EXP and Long Beach City College.

10.23.19 Land Use, Construction & Housing Council

The Land Use, Construction & Housing Council welcomed Equity Residential, who presented on their upcoming project located at 4th and Hill. Additionally, updates were given on newly signed state legislation, the Regional Needs Housing Assessment and motions from local jurisdictions.

L.A. Cash for College, in partnership with the L.A. Area Chamber, UNITE-LA and Univision, Inc., partnered to provide college preparation, financial aid assistance, career exploration and scholarship opportunities to approximately 8,000 students during Tu Futuro LA: Beyond the Diploma. Members of the Chamber’s Global Initiatives Council received an update on the implications of fintech and blockchain on global business from Edward Achtner, head of digital banking and strategic change, HSBC.

10.15.19 Joint Innovation & Technology and Government & Fiscal Affairs Council

The Chamber held a joint Innovation & Technology and Government & Fiscal Affairs Council focused on the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), slated to go into effect January 2020, with the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Privacy and Consumer Privacy, Assemblymember Ed Chau.

The Council heard insights on the California Cradle-to-Career Data Insights Act from Ben Chida, Office of California Gov. Gavin Newsom; Valerie Lundy-Wagner, California Competes; and Kim Pattillo Brownson, First 5 LA.
