LOS ANGELES, CA – AUGUST 8, 2024 – The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement regarding the L.A. Area Chamber, Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), and Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board joining Mayor Karen Bass at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games closing ceremony, as the torch is passed to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games:
"The Olympic Flag is returning to Los Angeles for the first time in 40 years, positioning our region on the global stage as we prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games. This historic event presents a tremendous opportunity for businesses across the region to engage through tourism, infrastructure investment, and procurement. The Chamber is committed to convening, partnering, and advocating to help create a lasting legacy for the Games," stated Maria S. Salinas, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
“As Los Angeles prepares for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we need to learn from Paris how they were able to leverage this global event to create economic opportunities for their local communities. Our goal is not only to deliver a world-class event that will elevate Los Angeles on the global stage but to create lasting legacies that will benefit Angelenos for decades to come,” stated Stephen Cheung, President and CEO of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC)
“I’d like to congratulate our friends in Paris for an unforgettable two weeks – magnifique! As one of the world’s most diverse and inclusive destinations, our City of Angels looks forward to rolling out the red carpet for visitors from around the globe in 2028, when LA will become just the third city in history – and first in the U.S. – to host the Games a record three times, joining Paris and London on the medal stand," stated Adam Burke, President and CEO of Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board.
