Last week, Bixel Exchange and the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti convened public and private sector leaders to celebrate six months of success with the L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline initiative. Launched in partnership with Mayor Garcetti, the initiative has placed 100 diverse, low-income youth in paid tech internships at 28 different tech companies across L.A. As a result of these internships, 30 percent of these youth received full or part-time job placement. The event also featured a discussion with representatives from LinkedIn, Microsoft and the City about how programs like this provide great career opportunities. Industry professionals from Snap, Boingo Wireless, Data360, and mitú joined with a group of successful interns to showcase the success of the program. The event also featured Deputy Mayor Billy Chun; Councilmembers Monica Rodriguez, Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Mike Bonin; and Gregory Irish, executive director, City of L.A.
