Nearly 50 members of the Chamber's Diplomatic & Commercial Officers Group participated in an economic roundtable discussion with representatives of the counties of Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino and Los Angeles last week. Topics of discussion included economic development through foreign direct investment and collaborative bilateral trade opportunities. Participants included consul generals of New Zealand, Germany, Turkey, Angola, Sri Lanka and Paraguay. Members also held a private briefing with Brian Peck, deputy director of California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development immediately preceding the session.
Chamber participates in the 2016 China Brand Show opening ceremony
Last month, the Chamber participated in the opening ceremony of the China Brand Show 2016 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This expo is the largest Chinese Consumer Product show in the United States, attracting more than 180 Chinese exhibitors. Consul General Liu Jian of the Chinese Consulate General in L.A. gave the formal opening remarks. The large Chinese Exhibitors Pavilion was part of the annual L.A. Market Show, an event that provides a first-hand look at best-selling designs, emerging trends and up-and-coming styles in everything from giftware and home décor to tabletop, handmade designs and more.
Chamber participates in Industrial Beauty Brand Growth Program
Carlos Valderrama, senior vice president of Global Initiatives, addressed attendees at the Industrial Beauty Brand Growth program, organized by Beauty Industry Market Access in Torrance last week. International markets demand American products for their safety, quality and innovation. The session focused on building health and beauty branding pathways abroad. 
Senior VP of Global Appointed to U.S. Chamber Advisory Board
Carlos J. Valderrama, L.A. Area Chamber senior vice president of Global Initiatives, has been appointed to serve as a member of the U.S. Chamber's International Policy Committee (IPC). The IPC is the U.S. Chamber's top policy setting body on international trade and investment issues, and is comprised of senior members of the U.S. business community. Key objectives include leveling the global playing field for American businesses and workers by removing barriers to trade and investment, fight economic isolationism and ensure open and competitive markets by aligning trade, regulatory and competition policy.

An Update on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Sept. 14
The Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) represents a fast-growing region, home to 40 percent of global GDP and 800 million customers. Join the Chamber on Sept. 14, 8:30 a.m.- noon for a status update on the impact of the agreement on the U.S. and California economies, benefits of the agreement to SME's and IP protection.
