On Thursday, May 2, 2019, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will join more than 800 prominent business, government and civic leaders to assemble for the 93rd annual kickoff of World Trade Week (WTW) in Southern California, one of the biggest celebrations of international trade in the nation.

The program will feature keynote remarks by Dr. Udo Lange, CEO & president of FedEx Trade Networks Transportation & Brokerage, Inc., as he shares key global industry trends. In addition, Director of McKinsey Global Institute (MGI), Dr. Jonathan Woetzel, will lead a panel of industry leaders on insights in globalization and value chains and how companies can remain competitive in an increasingly complex business environment.
 
Dr. Jerrold Green, president & CEO of the Pacific Council on International Policy, will receive the esteemed Stanley T. Olafson Bronze Plaque Award. WTW also focuses on the future as we will award 20 high school and university students who are pursuing careers in global trade and investment with scholarships.
 
Today's $400 billion commercial exchange between the Los Angeles region and the world is a testimony to our ports and airports and our regional entrepreneurs in goods movement, professional services, manufacturing and distribution. Dubai Trade Delegation showcases business opportunities for L.A. companies
The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the U.A.E. Business Council and World Trade Center Los Angeles, hosted a briefing designed to showcase business opportunities available in Dubai for L.A. companies. This is the L.A. Area Chamber's second year working with the high-level Dubai trade delegation, led by Fahad Al Gergawi, CEO of Dubai's Investment Development Agency. Dubai representatives provided an in-depth overview of investment and bilateral trade opportunities in various industry sectors. L.A. companies were also encouraged to participate in the large trade show, EXPO 2020, in Dubai next year. The delegation included representatives of the Dubai free trade zones, Dubai FDI & Exports, the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, Emirates Group and Hon. Abdulla Alsaboosi, consul general of the United Arab Emirates in Los Angeles. The U.A.E. ranks as the top 33rd trading partner for L.A., with more than $1.4 billion in trade in 2017. Chamber selected as key California partner for OPIC
The Chamber announced last week that it has been selected by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) to serve as a key partner for its public diplomacy initiative to assist in showcasing the organization's efforts to help U.S. businesses compete in a global marketplace through private sector investment in emerging market countries. Turkish Airlines starts new operations from Istanbul Airport
As of April 6, Turkish Airlines, the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, has relocated to the brand new Istanbul Airport, which will allow a growth in capacity and network offerings along with high-end services being provided to its passengers. Within this framework, Turkish Airlines Business Class lounge will be offering its services at Istanbul Airport in a state-of-the-art environment where the company will be welcoming its guests with some of the finest luxury amenities and a wide variety of delicacies. With a target of 2023, the year of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, Turkish Airlines is expected to reach 120 million passengers and more than 500 aircraft. Consulate General of Canada to host NEXUS Trusted Traveler Program
After the success of last September's joint Canada-U.S. mobile enrollment session, the Consulate General of Canada will once again be hosting interviews for membership to the NEXUS program in downtown Los Angeles from May 21-23, 2019, including NEXUS, Global Entry and TSA PreCheck. Leading trade associations and businesses launch USMCA Coalition
 
 
More than 200 companies and associations representing farmers and ranchers, manufacturers, service providers and technology companies announced the launch of the USMCA Coalition, which will advocate for congressional approval of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
 
Over the coming months, the USMCA Coalition will make the case for expeditious passage of the agreement to members of Congress, and it will work to educate the American public about the benefits of the new deal. LEARN MORE.
 
Business Roundtable also released a powerful study on the benefits of trade with Canada and Mexico, citing that trade with these two countries alone supports 1,470,700 jobs in California. READ MORE.
