GOVERNOR SIGNS LEGISLATION TO STREAMLINE ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The Chamber applauds Gov. Jerry Brown for signing legislation this week to streamline environmental review for key construction projects. The two bills — AB 900 and SB 292 — signed during a ceremony, above, at the proposed site of the Farmers Field stadium, are expected to drive hundreds of millions of dollars in economic investment while ensuring all projects meet California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) criteria. "It's time for big thinking and big projects that put Californians back to work," said Gov. Brown. The Chamber was a proponent for both these bills. Contact Beverly Kenworthy, 213.580.7531. "If it’s made in the United States, chances are there’s a market for it in Chile," said U.S. Ambassador to Chile Alejandro Wolff. "There’s brand recognition and confidence — we’re deemed reliable." Chamber discusses future outlook for Port of Los Angeles
"We're excited at the Port of Los Angeles for stepping into the future. We see lots of challenges, but lots of opportunities," said Mike Christensen (left), Port deputy executive director at the Economy & Infrastructure Council on Wednesday. Even with the highly anticipated opening of the widened Panama Canal, Christensen said, businesses are still willing to pay a premium to come to Southern California, as long as we can give them value. The Council also voted to support the recently released draft EIR for BNSF Railway Company's Southern California International Gateway project, which is projected to remove 1.5 million truck trips annually from our freeways and create 22,000 direct and indirect jobs in Southern California.
