HIRING OUR HEROES

On Tuesday, the Chamber joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other organizations for a Hiring Our Heroes job fair at the Proud Bird Restaurant. Since its launch in March 2011, Hiring Our Heroes has helped nearly 100,000 veterans and military spouses find employment. More than 18,000 of those hires came directly from 430 hiring fairs held nationwide. Thank you to the more than 20 Chamber member companies, including lead sponsor Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., NBCUniversal and Wells Fargo, who participated in the fair. Modernizing LAX
On Wednesday, the Chamber testified at the Los Angeles County Air Land Use Commission (ALUC) on the LAX modernization plan. The ALUC approved the plan. The Chamber outlined the importance of the modernization to bringing public transit into the airport and helping ensure a safe, efficient and competitive LAX in the 21st century. The L.A. City Council's Planning and Land Use and Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committees will consider the plan on April 9. Contact Ruben Gonzalez, 213.580.7568.

Signage in Los Angeles
On Tuesday, the Chamber testified at a hearing of the Planning and Land Use Management Committee to support the development of a legislative solution governing the use and location of digital signs in L.A.. The Chamber served on the City's Billboard and Visual Landscape Visioning Group. The group's discussions highlighted the need for a clear and consistent city policy on digital billboards to provide advertisement opportunities for businesses, create jobs and help fuel economic growth. Millennium Hollywood Project
Today, the Chamber testified in support of the Millennium Hollywood Project at the City Planning Commission. This project will bring visionary architecture, elegant density and mixed-use planning along transit to fuel economic growth and more housing. The project will bring 7,000 jobs and $230 million of positive economic impact to Los Angeles. Contact Tina Hossain, 213.580.7531.



Leadership Southern California explores economic and workforce development
Last Friday, Leadership Southern California 2013 toured the Port of Los Angeles and discussed its impact on the nation. The group also visited the APM Terminals and USS Iowa Pacific Battleship Center. Contact Hadia Kabir, 213.580.7524.

LA Kings and LA Galaxy honored at the White House

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Kings and Los Angeles Galaxy were honored by President Barack Obama in a duel ceremony celebrating the two championship squads at the White House. The NHL and MLS championship teams, both owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group, each captured their respective league titles in 2012 with the Kings winning their first-ever Stanley Cup Championship and the Galaxy capturing their second consecutive MLS Cup Championship.
