EXPRESSLANES PROGRAM TO LAUNCH IN THE FALL This week the Chamber's Transportation & Goods Movement Council received a briefing on Metro's plans for ExpressLanes on the 10 and 110 freeways. The pilot program to convert carpool lanes to High Occupancy Toll lanes will be implemented later this fall. Access to the lanes will require a transponder. Members of the Automobile Club of Southern California are eligible for 20 percent off. The council also discussed the Fasana amendment to the Measure R ordinance that the Metro board is considering. This amendment would provide flexibility for the use of funds if an extension is approved by the voters. Contact Jessica Duboff, 213.580.7558. Chamber opposes Interim Control Ordinance for Chinatown The Chamber agrees with the L.A. City Planning Department's report to the City Planning Commission that recommended the Commission not approve an Interim Control Ordinance (ICO) that would prohibit the establishment of formula retail uses in the Chinatown community. The ICO would send a negative message to businesses looking to invest in Los Angeles. The Commission voted 5-2 in favor of the Planning Department's staff report to disapprove the ICO.
