WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE EDUCATION. The Chamber and its L.A. Compact partners convened local business, education, nonprofit and civic leaders recently to discuss progress made since the Compact signing last February. In 2010 the group helped secure more than $45 million for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Compact partners also helped secure a $5 million federal i3 grant. The money will support 60,000 students at some of the district's lowest achieving schools. Above, Compact partners revealed data showing current high school graduation, four-year graduation and college enrollment rates among others, and presented a plan on how to track and report progress annually. Chamber-proposed L.A. Office of Economic Analysis to receive next steps for funding
L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti introduced a motion this week to identify funding sources for a permanent Office of Economic Analysis. This Chamber-initiated office provides policymakers with a non-partisan, independent analysis of proposed ordinances for their impact on the City's business climate and overall economic competitiveness. The office functions much like the Congressional Budget Office and California's Legislative Analyst's Office. Contact Samuel Garrison, 213.580.7568.
