 87TH ANNUAL WORLD TRADE WEEK KICK OFF BREAKFAST More than 500 business executives and members of the diplomatic corps gathered this morning for the 87th Annual World Trade Week Kickoff Breakfast at the JW Marriott at L.A. Live. City Council approved the critical separation of the north runways and the overall modernization of the Los Angeles International Airport. The Chamber applauds the 10 City Council members — Council President Herb Wesson, Tom Labonge, Ed Reyes, Paul Krekorian, Paul Koretz, Richard Alarcon, Bernard Parks, Mitch Englander, Jose Huizar and Joe Buscaino — for making a bold decision to make LAX safer, more efficient and competitive. Contact Ruben Gonzalez, 213.580.7568. • California Environmental Quality Act On Wednesday, the Chamber testified in Sacramento in support of SB 731 (Steinberg), which passed unanimously out of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee. “While we recognize that we have a long way to go to achieve meaningful CEQA Reform, we believe that this bill is an important step forward," said Chamber President & CEO Gary Toebben testifying as co-chair of the Statewide CEQA Working Group. We encourage Chamber members to communicate to legislators that meaningful CEQA reform should be a priority this year. The Chamber also opposed SB 617 (Evans), which would expand CEQA requirements. City Council the proposed plan to functionally integrate the departments of Planning and Building and Safety under a new Department of City Planning and Development. The Chamber testified in support of the plan and provided specific recommendations to help guide its implementation to add accountability, efficiency and certainty to the City’s development process. Jerry Brown signed AB 113 (Assembly Budget Committee), which directs $1.6 million to the Secretary of State's Office to accelerate the State's business filing process and eliminate a massive backlog of filings.
