LAX AIRPORT TERMINAL RENOVATION COMPLETE. This week the newly renovated Tom Bradley International Terminal at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) was unveiled. The $737 million, three year project was completed on time and under budget. The Chamber has been a strong proponent for the renovation and advocated strongly to the Transportation Security Administration for $115 million for the new in-line checked-baggage security screening facility at the terminal. Renovating LAX has been a high priority for the Chamber over the past several years during the ACCESS Washington, D.C. - Southern California on the Hill trips. Chamber discusses future of Community Redevelopment Agency with new CEO
The future of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) was outlined by recently appointed CRA CEO Chris Essel and CRA Commissioner and Chamber Board Member Ken Fearn, Integrated Capital, LLC, at the Land Use, Construction & Housing Committee meeting Wednesday at the Chamber. "There is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done to make this place efficient, and to run it like a business," said Essel, above right. "We need to focus on how we can create a true economic development strategy at the agency for job creation, retention and expansion." The committee also heard from L.A. Business successful in defeating apartment owners mandate
The L.A. City Council chose not to approve a four-month moratorium on the allowed 3 percent annual rent increase on rent-controlled property in Los Angeles. The Chamber joined dozens of small business apartment owners to oppose the motion on Friday at City Hall after successfully fighting the original motion, which called for a full-year moratorium. This would have placed an additional financial burden on apartment owners after the City Council approved a 4.5 percent DWP rate increase last month.
