YOUTH AT WORK VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPORTERS On Wednesday, the Chamber recognized all the volunteers who have played a critical role in helping L.A. youth develop the confidence and skills they need to compete in today's labor market. More than 40 volunteers from Chamber member organizations, including Walmart Foundation, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, AT&T, Vons and the Consulate General of Belgium attended the special L.A.  Chamber-supported wastewater upgrade contract approved On Tuesday, the Chamber testified in support of an $88 million, 15-year contract to Honeywell International to replace, maintain and upgrade computer control systems at four wastewater treatment plants and the City's wastewater collection system. With more than 4 million people currently served, our wastewater automation system suffers from multiple weaknesses that require complete replacement. In approving this contract, the L.A. Chamber members encouraged to attend Redistricting Commission public hearings The Los Angeles City Council Redistricting Commission is holding 15 public hearings starting next week, Monday, Dec. 5 through Tuesday, Jan. 10 to solicit input on the redrawing of council district boundaries. "We need to hear from the residents of Los Angeles," said Commission Chair Arturo Vargas. "This process will affect everything from city services to your representation for the next 10 years." California Connections travels to San Francisco, Oakland and Silicon Valley This week, California Connections, Southern California Leadership Network's statewide fellowship, is providing an in-depth look at the political climate, economy and land-use transformations taking place in the Bay Area. On Thursday, the group at left, visited the Transbay Transit Center re-development site, which will open in 2017 and employ more than 100,000 people. "The new Transit Center will serve the California high speed rail, which is important to connecting people up and down the peninsula," said Scott Boule, Transbay Joint Powers Authority. Chamber co-hosts U.S.-Korea FTA passage celebration  The Chamber participated as a key partner in the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA) Conference on Wednesday, co-hosted by KOTRA - Korea Business Center, Los Angeles and the Korea Ministry of Strategy of Finance. The conference provided an in-depth analysis of the FTA agreement, including anticipated customs and regulation changes. The FTA will add $10-$12 billion to the annual U.S. GDP and around $10 billion to annual merchandise exports to Korea — making this the U.S.' most commercially significant FTA in more than 16 years. Trade Commissioners Networking Group (TCNG) tours USC Health Sciences Campus  On Tuesday, the Chamber's TCNG received a briefing and tour of USC Health Sciences Campus. Mitch Creem, CEO, Keck Medical Center of USC, provided an update on the growing international partnerships the USC Health Center has formed in the last year.
