Chamber urges Congress to reject protectionist provisions
The Chamber sent a letter to members of Congress this week urging them to reject the Buy American protectionist provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These provisions would have an impact on trade with America's long-standing and most dependable ally, Canada. Canada and the United States have long benefited from the world's most unique economic partnership. Chamber helps launch Belmont Zone of Choice Schools
The Chamber, in partnership with Los Angeles Unified School District Local District Superintendent Richard Alonzo, L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti, LAUSD Board President Mónica García and school principals will be working together at Belmont High School, Miguel Contreras Learning Center and Roybal Learning Center to improve the success of all students through initiatives including building business-education partnerships and professional development. The partnership is designed to improve student preparation for post-secondary options and opportunities, including college and the 21st century workforce. Chamber meets with Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency
The Chamber and the Port of Los Angeles recently met with Lee Seung Kwon, comptroller for The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), to discuss efforts to develop partnerships and mutual support for building a prosperous green economy with the city of Los Angeles. KOTRA's President Lee Myung Bak is introducing environmentally-friendly laws and expects the Assembly to ratify the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement. The Chamber and KOTRA are hosting a green technology forum on March 3, which will explore current green policies and market opportunities, Korea's green initiatives and investment incentives.
