Chamber partnering on The Million Word Challenge
The Chamber is partnering with Families in Schools on The Million Word Challenge, a county-wide literacy campaign that encourages preschool - 12th grade students to read millions of words outside of school. Currently, 66 percent of low-income, African American and Latino third grade students are reading below grade level. Children who read at home are more likely to succeed in school according to the National Education Association. On Feb. 1, Families in Schools will be launching The Million Word Challenge. The student who reads the most books from each school wins $50 to create their own library at home. Join us in supporting this effort by donating to this cause today. Read more.
