VOTE YES ON PROPOSITION 28

Join the Chamber on Tuesday, June 5, in voting YES on Proposition 28, a reform that reduces time in office from 14 to 12 years and allows legislators to serve that time in either the State Assembly or the State Senate. Currently legislators’ time in office is limited by terms — three two-year terms in the Assembly and two four-year terms in the Senate. Proposition 28 will allow legislators to focus on their districts, rather than spending their energy lining up support to run for their next office. The proposition is supported by a broad-based coalition of business and labor along with dozens of local and statewide organizations including the League of Women Voters of California and California Common Cause. Ambassador of Argentina to the U.S. discusses trade relations
On Wednesday, Ambassador of Argentina to the U.S. Jorge Arguello discussed the future of diplomatic and bilateral trade relations between the United States and Argentina. Bilateral trade between the two countries has more than doubled in recent years. The United States is the second largest investor in Argentina, and the country receives the fourth largest amount of direct U.S. investments in Latin America, behind Brazil, Mexico and Chile. Contact Carlos Valderrama, 213.580.7570.

California Connections in the Central Valley
This week California Connections Fellows are convening in the Central Valley to take a look at agriculture and water issues, and to study how the region shapes the State. On Wednesday fellows heard from Secretary of California Department of Food and Agriculture Karen Ross. "We are the innovative center of agriculture," said Ross. "Food security to a nation is equivalent to civil stability." Today the group traveled to the University of Merced, Lemoore Naval Air Station and Harris Ranch Farm. Contact Hadia Kabir, 213.580.7524.
