L.A. JOBS PAC SCORES VICTORIES IN LOS ANGELES CITY ELECTIONS

On Tuesday, the L.A Jobs PAC scored significant victories in the Los Angeles City Council races, driving Gil Cedillo to a resounding victory in District 1 and Curren Price to a win in District 9.  In the special election primary for District 6, endorsed candidate Nury Martinez has advanced to a July run off. These successes together with our victories in March with endorsed candidates Felipe Fuentes, Mike Bonin and Joe Buscaino resulted in the L.A. Jobs PAC playing a major role in the election and re-election of five City Councilmembers to the new council that will be seated July 1. Thank you to all who stepped up and engaged in the recent campaign. Read more. Contact Ruben Gonzalez, 213.580.7568.

Chamber supported Homes and Jobs Act moves forward
On Thursday, SB 391 (DeSaulnier), the Homes and Jobs Act, passed "off suspense" in the Senate Appropriations Committee and now goes to the Senate Floor for a vote, possibly early next week. The Chamber has been a strong advocate for passage of this bill, which is expected to annually raise $500 million as a sustainable source of funding for affordable and permanent supportive housing. The Chamber, along with other major business organizations throughout the State, views this bill as a potential tool to revitalize the construction sector, create 29,000 jobs statewide and reduce State costs for homelessness. In addition to continued support from Senators Jerry Hill and Ricardo Lara, the bill picked up three aye votes from Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, Senate Appropriations Chair Kevin de Leon and Senator Alex Padilla. Chamber joins Gov. Brown for press conference supporting local control funding
Last Friday, Chamber President & CEO Gary Toebben joined Gov. The press conference comes after a support letter from the L.A. Compact and its signers. “We believe the local control funding formula will help foster educational growth in our communities and allow us to provide local solutions to the challenges we face," said Compact signers in the letter. Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy, United Teachers of Los Angeles President Warren Fletcher and United Way of Greater Los Angeles President & CEO Elise Buik were also present to show their support. Chamber members chosen to compete in individual health insurance market

Covered California, California's Health Benefit Exchange, announced today the 13 Qualified Health Plans it has certified to compete in the individual health insurance market launching January 2014. Congratulations to health care industry leaders and Chamber members – Kaiser Permanente, Blue Shield of California, Anthem Blue Cross of California, L.A. Care Health Plan and Health Net -- which represent five of the 13 selected plans. The plans must now submit their rates to state regulators for review of reasonableness. The chosen plans will have an opportunity to serve the estimated 5.3 million Californians eligible to purchase insurance through Covered California. These plans are guaranteed to provide basic levels of coverage and consumer protections set forth in the Affordable Care Act. Read more.
