LEGISLATORS AND BUSINESS LEADERS TOUR LOS ANGELES DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS The Chamber and Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation took legislators, elected official staff and business leaders on a bus tour to see and discuss examples of development projects that would create jobs and economic opportunities. Some of the projects were sued under California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for non-environmental reasons. "CEQA is the only law in the country where you can entirely comply and still only succeed 50 percent of the time," said Jennifer Hernandez, Holland & Knight, LLP. The group visited the University Gateway project at University of Southern California, the Expo Line and a number of Hollywood projects. Discussion centered around how delaying these housing, transit and education projects impacted the community and investment in Los Angeles, as well as ideas for legislative solutions.
