"The good news is that there are more jobs in California than any other state. This year our credit has gone from negative to stable and the best days are ahead of us."

State Sen. Ted Lieu at the Leadership L.A. seminar on Friday.

  CHAMBER Highlight

U.S. Chamber of Commerce honors L.A. Area Chamber
As part of its 100th anniversary celebration, this week the U.S. Chamber honored the L.A. Area Chamber as one of their original founding members at the Regional Government Affairs Conference in Las Vegas. The L.A. Area Chamber is a member of the U.S. Chamber but is governed by its own board of directors.

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, 7:45 - 11:30 a.m. join the Chamber in showing our elected leaders that the business community is dedicated to fiscal stability in Los Angeles at our annual ACCESS L.A. City Hall. Our agenda remains focused on the creation of jobs and the fostering of good government, and we need your presence to deliver this message loud and clear. We are expecting more than 200 of our business leaders from throughout the region to come together for a plenary session with Citywide electeds and a special City Council meeting on issues vital to L.A.'s businesses. This event is free and open to the public. Register now or contact Shannon Cooper, 213.580.7565.

Vote for business on Nov. 6
With Election Day just weeks away, the Chamber is encouraging its members to read up on the issues and to join us on Tuesday, Nov. 6 in voting for business. The November ballot contains critical initiatives that will impact L.A. businesses and the economy for years to come. View our voting guide. We hope you will join us in voting for a better L.A. Contact Ruben Gonzalez, 213.580.7568.

Chamber applauds LAUSD's gains on Academic Performance Index
Today, the Chamber and the L.A. Compact applauded the Los Angeles Unified School District and its leadership for continuing to improve on the state's Academic Performance Index (API). The district's API jumped 16 points in 2012, outpacing the state average. "It's commendable that our district as a whole is closing in on the state API target of 800 points amid budget cuts, layoffs, larger class sizes and a shortened school year," said L.A. Area Chamber Senior Vice President David Rattray. Contact David Rattray, 213.580.7515.

Leadership L.A. explores the South Bay
On Friday, Leadership L.A. 2012 fellows heard from State Sen. Ted Lieu on his perspectives on leadership and his positive outlook on how the State is functioning. Fellows visited the Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo, The Aerospace Corporation, Mattel Inc. and The Boeing Co. The Leadership L.A. 2012 class will graduate on Monday, Nov. 5. If you want to learn more about Southern California Leadership Network, plan on being there. Register now or contact Hadia Kabir, 213.580.7524.
