Chamber testifies in support of permanent freeze for retiree medical subsidies
While the City continues to negotiate employee contributions to health care benefits with the Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions (LAFPP) and the Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System (LACERS), L.A. City Council voted to draft an ordinance freezing the current maximum medical subsidy amounts for members of LACERS who retire on or after July 1, 2011. A similar proposal for LAFPP members is being considered and will be heard in Council at a later date. Chamber meets with new LADWP General Manager
Los Angeles Department of Water & Power General Manager Ron Nichols outlined a three-year plan to reduce labor, operations and capital costs by $440 million at the Chamber's Environmental Sustainability Council meeting Friday. Cedars-Sinai Chief Nursing Officer named one of the top 25 women in health care
Modern Healthcare Magazine recently named Linda Burnes Bolton, DrPH, RN, FAAN, vice president and chief nursing officer of Cedars-Sinai Health System, among its Top 25 Women in Healthcare.
The honor recognizes women who are making positive differences in the industry by providing leadership and mentorship. Burnes Bolton, selected from a pool of more than 300 health care professionals from across the nation, is renowned nationally for her innovative programs to improve both quality of care as well as the health of the community. State Farm Insurance Companies gives high school some "green" to go green
Students at Thomas Jefferson High School — a Public School Choice school — are cleaning and greening the neighborhood, and receiving a little "green" to support their efforts. The school recently received a $5,000 grant from State Farm Insurance Companies' Environmental Grant Program for their work to build a "green alley" near the school.
Green alleys are a growing trend in cities as they provide a functional space for people to walk, bike and skate safely while encouraging healthy lifestyles through gardens. Read more.
