City of L.A. Has Many Opportunities to Increase Jobs NOW

Tomorrow, nearly 400 of Los Angeles' business and civic leaders will descend upon L.A. City Hall for the Chamber's annual member advocacy day, ACCESS L.A. City Hall. The focus will be on the many opportunities that City Hall has to be a partner with business in creating jobs, expanding the tax base and improving our quality of life … all without spending more money.

We will hear from our elected officials, including Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Controller Wendy Greuel, City Attorney Carmen Trutanich and Council President Eric Garcetti about their priorities for dealing with our City’s job crisis and fiscal shortfall.

The Chamber will then present the 2011 Economic Report for the City* and individual council districts. The report compares key economic indicators for each of L.A.’s 15 Council Districts resulting in a snapshot of each district’s total number of jobs, wages and tax revenue.  

City Councilmembers have a great deal of influence over the projects that businesses propose in their district. As a result, City Councilmembers often determine whether or not the number of jobs and the tax base in their district is expanding or contracting. When their numbers are expanding, we all win. When they are contracting, we all lose.

ACCESS L.A. City Hall is one of the Chamber’s most important events each year, and thanks to your participation it is also one of our most successful. This is the time for us to showcase the business communities' commitment to the prosperity of Los Angeles, and to send a strong message to our elected officials about needed changes.
