Blog / The Business Perspective

Thank You

In my final Business Perspective of 2016, I want to say thank you to the 1,650 member companies and organizations who support the mission and work of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. When the Chamber was founded in 1888, 54 business owners signaled their commitment and determination to make L.A. an economic powerhouse and a great place to live and visit. Only 50,000 people lived in L.A. at that time.

Today’s Chamber members are proud to carry the torch that was lit 128 years ago and they are optimistic about 2017. Part of that optimism is based on the results of the Chamber’s leadership during the last several years.

Four years ago, the Chamber led the charge on public support for a new master plan at LAX. That plan was the foundation and springboard for the $14 billion in public and private improvements currently scheduled at LAX.

This past year, the Chamber championed public support for Measure M to finance $140 billion worth of transportation improvements in L.A. County. The Chamber also co-chaired Measure HHH with the United Way to finance the construction of 10,000 housing units for the homeless. The last ballot measure in this successful trifecta was our co-chairmanship of Measure CC, which will invest $3.4 billion in capital improvements at the nine campuses that make up the Los Angeles Community College District. Dozens of Chamber members also contributed individually to the campaigns that successfully championed these three ballot measures.

All of us who have the pleasure to serve on your Chamber’s professional staff say thank you for your financial support and your leadership. We are proud to work for business leaders like you who volunteer both time and money to making the L.A. area a better place to live, work and do business. Your past and current legacies of leadership and commitment have been making a difference for 128 years.

The L.A. area is a better place because of your businesses and your dedication to the common good of our region. We wish each of you and your families and your 650,000 employees in L.A. County a wonderful Holiday Season.

And that's The Business Perspective.
