Patrick, today you are Los Angeles' MVP. You have joined forces with our leading media voice, the Los Angeles Times, and given their team of journalists a new sense of financial security and optimism. Together, you can bring more championships and Pulitzer prizes to our city and region.
I learned the importance of a strong newspaper 43 years ago when I began my career in chamber of commerce work. The voice of our daily newspaper was essential to increasing public engagement and encouraging community leaders to tackle the big challenges and big opportunities in our city. A strong and involved newspaper reaches out to the masses, champions great causes and rebukes those in positions of authority who are not living up to their responsibilities.
No one knows whether your purchase of the Los Angles Times will result in a "they lived happily ever after" news story, but we hope it does. As for today, you have made us very happy. We say thank you and wish you the very best.
