Today, I officially begin my role as President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber has a remarkable legacy over its 130-year history
, and serving in this capacity, for the businesses and people of this region, is a tremendous honor. I look forward to building upon the great work of my predecessors, and to expanding the Chamber's leadership role and influence on a regional, national and global basis.
I have lived in L.A. my entire life and believe this area has so much to offer. The third largest metropolitan economy in the world, Los Angeles is a dynamic region driven by creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, shaped by the diversity of the people and industries that call it home. And, with its proximity to Latin America and the Pacific Rim, its international community flourishes. If you want the best place to create, design, manufacture or trade … Los Angeles is the place for you.
I have just returned from L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti's trade mission to Asia, and as we look ahead, and with an eye towards 2028 when Los Angeles will host the Olympics, I know the Chamber can forge a path to shine even brighter on the global stage. Together, we can build on the Chamber's foundation and set a course to shape its future. With your continued support and engagement, I know we can be successful.
The Chamber’s work is vast, and it touches every industry in every corner of L.A. But as I look at the work before us in the coming year, a few themes emerge:
- A Global Chamber for a Global Los Angeles - The Los Angeles area is fueled by a global economy; almost every business sector thrives beyond our borders. While on the Mayor's Asia Trade Mission, I experienced first-hand great interest from foreign markets to do business in L.A. With partners across the business community and the support of policy makers, the Chamber can play a key role in attracting foreign investment, supporting trade and growing international business relationships.
- Advocating for a Business-Friendly Region - A Bold Voice for Business - The Chamber has a long tradition of advocating on behalf of the L.A. region and its business community. But there’s more work to be done to promote a truly business-friendly L.A. We are well positioned to convene business leaders and come together to proactively define a pro-business agenda. And, to work with policy makers in a collaborative manner to share in the goals to achieve a business friendly region.
- A Spirit of Innovation and Entrepreneurship - It is no secret that in the L.A. region, creativity and innovation thrives. One example is the growth of Silicon Beach, a major technology hub in L.A. The growing impact of the tech sector will continue to evolve the business landscape. This presents an opportunity for the Chamber to expand its engagement with emerging sectors, entrepreneurs and small businesses. We are well positioned to help expand access to new business opportunities and grow the talent pipeline.
- Collaborating with Strategic Partnerships - The strength of this Chamber, much like the region, resides in the collective power of our membership and partners in the greater business community. We do our best work when we engage collaboratively and inclusively with business leaders, policy makers, community stakeholders and strategic partners. I look forward to partnering with you to build the best L.A.
With bold initiatives and strategic partnerships, we can strengthen our communities and foster prosperity. I hope you join me in taking this Chamber to greater heights.
In the near term, I will be meeting with business and community leaders, elected officials, and most importantly, our members. I want to hear your ideas, see first-hand how you’re innovating and creating jobs, and understand the challenges you face. It’s with that knowledge and understanding, and with your continued partnership and collaboration, that we’ll create a shared agenda and enhance the quality of life for all Angelenos.
