Immigration back into focus

On March 12 in the nation's capital, Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard led the introduction of HR6, the Dream and Promise Act of 2019, that would grant young, undocumented immigrants (DACA recipients and DREAMers) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients an opportunity to acquire full, U.S. permanent residency if they meet certain requirements. Locally, the same day, the Chamber joined the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) and other community advocates on the steps of L.A. City Hall in support of this legislation that prioritizes finding a permanent solution for these individuals. Immigration was again also a central theme during this year’s ACCESS Washington, D.C. trip, as the Chamber recognizes immigrants are woven into L.A.’s social fabric and economic success, and we stand committed to advancing immigrant-friendly policies that create a safe, inclusive environment for immigrants and their families.
