Chamber joins Supervisor Ridley-Thomas to discuss unprecedented bioscience investment

The Chamber welcomed L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas to discuss the many different initiatives and programs around the bioscience industry. L.A. County is taking unprecedented investments to advance the bioscience industry, which generates more than $40 billion in economic activity and provides more than 200,000 direct and indirect jobs. The County has also created a Bioscience Investment Fund aimed at assisting small startup businesses get access to capital in the most important stage of their new business. Supervisor Ridley-Thomas and the Chamber are looking forward to partnering together on issues regarding workforce development and the attraction of new businesses.
Also mentioned at the meeting was the relevance of the work of the Chamber's affiliate, UNITE-LA. UNITE-LA is leading in the bioscience industry by partnering with the Amgen Foundation to serve 164 schools, 261 teachers and 26,426 students through the Amgen Biotech Experience. The program aims to inform and cultivate a local talent pipeline for the life sciences industry. The Chamber will be working closely with L.A. County, BioLA, Amgen Foundation and the larger bioscience industry to ensure this momentum continues and for the successful expansion of this industry. SEE THE PHOTOS.
