The Chamber, in partnership with L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), trained and placed 69 South L.A. youth between the ages of 14 and 24 through the South L.A. Scholars program. The program is designed to provide high school and college students from South L.A. enrolled in health care pathways with the opportunity to explore health care professions during the summer. Multiple health care organizations raised their hands to host and cultivate the next generation of health care professionals. Business partners include Kaiser Permanente, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science, Avanti Hospitals, UMMA Community Clinic, St. Francis Medical Center, Good Samaritan Medical Center, St John’s Well Child & Family Center, South Central Family Health Center, Community Health Councils, Community Clinic Association of L.A. County, Clinica Oscar A. Romero and Asian Pacific Health Care Ventures.
The South L.A. Scholars program is sponsored by JPMorgan Chase, UniHealth and Kaiser Permanente, whose funding allows the Chamber to further develop a diverse, qualified L.A. area health care workforce.
