Chamber staff recently toured the Cal State L.A. Hydrogen Research and Fueling Facility (H2), the largest university-based hydrogen fueling facility. The facility is used to provide real workforce training for engineering students who learn how to safely operate and maintain the equipment, generate and dispense hydrogen fuel for customers. To promote increased interest in STEM, the facility offers educational tours for K-12 students. Local high schools with engineering or environmental pathway programs use the station as part of their curricula, which can lead to summer internship projects. The facility is also considered a leading industry model and is often visited by leaders from the energy sector, governmental organizations and community-based organizations –- both domestically and internationally.
Additionally, the Charter College of Education at Cal State L.A. has a new, unique tool, called TeachLive, developed by the Mursion company, which prepares future teachers and counselors through contextualized learning on simulated students before going into field-based experiences in schools and social agencies. This simulator is also being used in the corporate sector for customer service training, human resource management and training for emergency management.
