Women Lead

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, I am reminded that, as far as we’ve come, our work is not yet done in the quest for gender equity. Especially with so many women having exited the workforce during the pandemic, we understand the importance of advocating for public policy which supports women in the workplace.

This month we participated in and highlighted several programs to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding women leaders in business, government, nonprofit, and education. It’s impossible to miss the impact these women have on the world around us, and their inspiring personal stories which shine a light on the values of hard work and perseverance.

Earlier this month, the Chamber hosted its annual federal advocacy trip, AccessDC, where it was clear that women are taking charge and making a difference in Washington D.C. from Administrator Isabella Guzman, United States Small Business Administration, to Adrianne Todman, Deputy Secretary of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to Polly Trottenberg, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department Transportation, and Aimee Witteman, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy. These are just a few of the great women who are leading the way at the national level who shared their insight and expertise with our delegation.

The imagery of these strong, dedicated leaders taking part in the biggest advocacy trip for the L.A. region's business community, all coinciding with women’s history month, was wonderful to behold. It makes me optimistic for a future that is inclusive and promising for the women and girls of Los Angeles and the nation.

With women continuing to take their seat at the table and shattering glass ceilings, it becomes more and more apparent that when women succeed, we all succeed. The L.A. Area Chamber will continue our work to ensure that our region’s economy is equitable and prosperous for all.
