Advocating for the L.A. Region in the State Capital
April 22, 2022
by Maria S. Salinas
The Chamber concluded its 2022 advocacy trip to the state capital, where we hosted a delegation of business, civic, elected, education, and community leaders from the L.A. region. Our diverse coalition was a representation of our region and the many voices who collaborate for a better California.
I also joined lawmakers for a press conference to support legislation to assist our small business community, specifically tax credits for small businesses which incentivize local hiring and budget allocations for procurement opportunities.
Our delegation met state legislators and discussed policies that would encourage economic growth and job creation in our communities, with each meeting reinforcing the importance of being visible in Sacramento. We made sure members of the Senate, the Assembly, and members of the Governor’s administration heard and saw us.
Housing and homelessness, energy, public safety, and workforce development were some of the key topics of conversation. We had special remarks from California Secretary of State, Dr. Shirley Weber, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, State Senator Scott Wiener, Chairman of the California Workforce Development Board, Dr. Angelo Farooq, and Executive Director of the State Labor Council, Joe Cruz, among others.
The breadth of the impact of the L.A. Area Chamber, highlighted through our advocacy work, continues to be an inspiration to me.
