Los Angeles Deserves Better

This has been a difficult week in Los Angeles.

We often hear, “our diversity is our superpower.” We are a multiracial, multiethnic community that values the richness of our diversity. The hurtful, hateful, and racist remarks from members of political leadership were an assault on the fabric of our society. It was devastating to hear people we trusted to guide our city speak so venomously. The damage they have done to race relations in our city is still not fully known.

The behavior of the Councilmembers brings to light the work for structural change that needs to happen. You can read our statement here.

The Chamber stands for an inclusive economy that works for all residents. When the systems of political power plot to divide and marginalize, we need to demand change. How do we restore trust in government? Trust in those we elect to serve the public? I don’t know the answer to these questions, but I do know that it will be important for us to help restore the trust in government with change to the "status quo".

I am sad for our city, but I am also filled with hope because of the commitment of our Chamber family, community and civic leaders that are ready to come together and lead change.

Good has to prevail. Good governance, integrity, and trust are essential for any candidate seeking our vote. With our vote we have the power and responsibility to be informed. Let’s do the work to make the change because we deserve better.
