Mayor Bass’ First 100 Days in Office

When Mayor Karen Bass was sworn in on Dec. 11, 2022, she made history as the first woman and only the second African American to hold the city’s chief executive position. In her first 100 days, Mayor Bass has taken accountability for the issues the city is facing and the Chamber commends the mayor on her swift response and bold leadership on the city’s homelessness crisis. The Chamber is encouraged by Mayor Bass’ commitment to revitalizing the city in the post-pandemic economy, and with her collaborative approach to working with the business community.

At the Chamber’s Inaugural event in February, Mayor Bass remarked to over one thousand business and community leaders in attendance that, “Los Angeles is open for business.” Mayor Bass has assembled an administration open to listening and working with the business community, including Chris Thompson, Chief of Staff, and Rachel Freeman, Deputy Mayor for Business and Economic Development. The Chamber is encouraged by what the future holds, and we are prepared to partner with the Mayor’s administration to guide reforms to improve the business climate in the city.

While the Mayor and her administration have keenly focused her first 100 days to address the city’s homelessness in a humanitarian manner, she has also shown her preparedness to work with the business community to improve our city. We look forward to working with Mayor Bass to bring mutual benefits for the city, residents and businesses which make Los Angeles thrive.
