Global Trade in 2023
April 14, 2023
by Maria S. Salinas
Global trade offers job creation, growth opportunities for companies, and contributes to the economy while fostering relationships between nations, all benefiting the Los Angeles region.
International trade has played a vital role in the economic development and expansion of Southern California, which includes two of the world’s largest ports, countless industries and a massive workforce devoted to trade. Our region sees $475 billion in yearly exports and imports move through our region and employs nearly 883,000 people through the San Pedro Bay Port Complex alone, across the 5 counties.
The Chamber is focused on increasing trade for equitable benefits across our region, so all communities have a chance to flourish. Since 1926, the Chamber has promoted trade initiatives which encourage economic mobility, equity and opportunity for the region.
To ensure equitable growth for our region, we must utilize global trade as the next great frontier for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises who look to transition into a big business. However, business owners face challenges in navigating complex regulations, cultural differences, trade policies, and demands of international consumers. The Chamber is dedicated to working with small businesses to provide resources which simplify global trade and advance Los Angeles' role as a powerful and dynamic region integral to the global economy.
For more than 97 years, the Chamber has hosted World Trade Week Southern California. This year’s event will continue as the premiere international trade gathering. We will have (retired) General Stephen R. Lyons, Port and Supply Chain Envoy, for the Biden-Harris Administration, an engaging panel discussion on the importance of building a resilient supply chain and special industry and policy guests. Don't miss your chance to attend this amazing event. Sign up here.
