The Paris 2024 Olympics ended with a celebration, reflection, and transition. As Paris bid farewell to athletes, fans, and the global audience, the closing ceremony also marked the handover to Los Angeles, ushering in the next chapter in Olympic history. In just four years, the world’s eyes will turn to our city.
Mayor Karen Bass represented Los Angeles and received the Olympic Flag in Paris, carrying it to L.A. on Delta’s Olympic Flag Flight. I was honored to join Mayor Bass, several elected officials, LA28 executives, and over 50 athletes on that historic journey.
Hosting the 2028 Olympics is a significant milestone, elevating the City of Los Angeles onto the global stage. As a lifelong Angeleno, I’m filled with enormous pride and anticipation. This is an incredible opportunity to showcase our city’s unique character and celebrate its diversity.
The Olympics are expected to bring considerable economic benefits—job creation, increased tourism, and long-term investments in infrastructure. With growth in the economy and enhancements in transportation and housing, we can look forward to an improved quality of life for our communities. Small businesses, in particular, will have an opportunity to share in this prosperity, which is why the Chamber launched the "Get In The Game" Initiative to ensure their participation in the coming contracting opportunities.
The 2028 Games offer Los Angeles an opportunity to create a legacy. Investments made in preparation for the Olympics will lead to lasting improvements in infrastructure, transportation, housing, and public spaces, benefiting future generations.
aris 2024 set a new standard of excellence, fulfilling the Olympic promise. Now, Los Angeles is poised to build on that success, surpassing all expectations and bringing our own distinctive flair to the Games.
