Los Angeles has a lot to be proud of since the Mayor's last SOTC. The results of the November and March elections were a clear statement by the electorate on their priorities. We look forward to hearing the Mayor lay out his next steps on these issues:

There are no arguments in Los Angeles about the importance of international trade to our economy. On May 4, the Chamber will celebrate the 91st Annual World Trade Week (WTW) Kickoff breakfast in L.A. Last week during ACCESS Sacramento, the Chamber was proud to stand with other business leaders, Gov. Jerry Brown, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and Senate President pro Tem Kevin de Leon at a press conference unveiling the outline of a long-sought transportation funding agreement. Last year’s special session on transportation was a bust and ended with no action. Finally, it appears that Sacramento has now made funding for our deteriorating roads and highways a priority.

I suspect you can recall your first work experience. Mine was baling hay with neighbors in Nebraska. Linda Sanazaro, Head of Enterprise Operations, Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, started her career as a receptionist. Dennis Rodriguez, Chief City Executive, Siemens Corporation, started his career as a carpet cleaner. In each of these first work experiences, someone gave us an opportunity that was the start of our career path. Now the Chamber is asking you and your business to do the same thing.

The Chamber's annual advocacy trip to our state's capital is less than four weeks away and the early bird deadline for registering is tomorrow, March 3. We are traveling to Sacramento earlier than normal this legislative session to get ahead of the budget conversations and share our thoughts on the positions that California might take relative to the new Federal agenda.
