Los Angeles is at a political turning point. This next election will be significant to the direction of the city, county, and school districts of Los Angeles, as well as the state legislature. We have been studying and anticipating the expected transitions for almost two years, knowing that term limits and redistricting would result in the changes we are seeing today. However, while we expected to see change beginning this election cycle, we did not think it would be as significant as what we are seeing today.

Last week, the Chamber hosted a delegation of business, civic, elected, academic, and community leaders from the L.A. region in Washington D.C. for our annual federal advocacy trip, Access D.C. We were proud to bring such a diverse delegation to our nation’s capital to discuss topics of great importance to the region and the country. Our delegation had the opportunity to connect with federal stakeholders and decision makers, and I was emboldened by the recognition from our nation’s leaders of the importance of the Los Angeles region to the U.S. economy.

In his State of the State address last night, the Governor Gavin Newsom spoke of the “California way,” noting major differences in leading a dominant and innovative economy like California's, especially compared to other states and even entire nations. He cited over 1 million new jobs created during the pandemic which were made possible through the strength and resilience of California’s business community.
