Russell J. “Rusty” Hammer, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce from 2001-2006, passed away Monday evening in San Jose, Calif. Rusty, who was 54, battled leukemia since 2003.
During Rusty’s five-year tenure as Chamber president and CEO, he returned the Chamber to prominence as Los Angeles County’s top business organization and leading advocate on regional policy issues. Before joining the Chamber, Rusty was CEO of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
Rusty was a tireless advocate for making Los Angeles a better place to work and live.
His dedication and vision for the Chamber has been an inspiration to all of us in the business community.
