L.A. Area Chamber And LAUSD Announce New Partnership Creating A Joint Office Of Parent And Civic Engagement

WHAT: On Thursday, February 28, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) will announce a historic new partnership creating a joint Office of Parent & Civic Engagement, which will serve as a clearinghouse for building business-education partnerships in Los Angeles. The new partnership, which is made possible through a grant of the James Irvine Foundation, will strategically match private and public sector companies and organizations with local schools, enhance curriculum with guidance from employers, deliver programs to engage the business community in public education, and enhance the District’s efforts towards implementing Small Schools/Small Learning Communities. Immediately following the announcement, the partnership will commence as Superintendent David L. Brewer III and L.A. Area Chamber Board Chair Tim McCallion join local area business executives alongside Principal Heather Daims at the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex as part of the ‘Principal for a Day’ shadowing program, sponsored by Merrill Lynch.
