L.A. Area Chamber Statement on California Legislature's State Budget Proposal

September 17, 2008

The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce is disappointed in the state budget proposal passed by the California Legislature on Tuesday, September 16.

“This budget does not include the long-term fiscal reforms outlined in the guiding principles for state budget reform adopted by our Board of Directors in June,” said Gary Toebben, President  & CEO, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.  “While we understand the difficulty of creating a consensus for reform given the major differences in philosophy between the two parties, we believe that the budget compromise reached earlier this week simply delays the hard decisions and sets the stage for an even more contentious debate next year.”

The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has not taken a formal position on the California state budget adopted by the legislature this week.  The Chamber’s guiding principles for budget reform can found at: http://www.lachamber.com/clientuploads/Access_Sac/Budget_Reform_Guiding_Principles_FINAL.pdf.
