L.A. Area Chamber Statement on the Appointment of Ramon Cortines as LAUSD Superintendent

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce applauds the appointment of Ramon Cortines as the permanent Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).  His qualifications will allow the district to immediately continue in our momentum to reform our schools, improve graduation rates and develop the future workforce.  The L.A. Area Chamber calls upon all stakeholders — including the business community, elected leaders, labor, parents and community leaders — to support Superintendent Cortines and the Board of Education in reaching the promise of a world-class education system in Los Angeles.  The L.A. Area Chamber also urges the Board of Education to move quickly in establishing expectations, benchmarks and timeframes for measuring the future success of Superintendent Cortines and the district.  The L.A. Area Chamber looks forward to working with Superintendent Cortines and the Board of Education in the year ahead.
