L.A. Area Chamber Members Make an Impact at the Salvation Army Red Shield Youth & Community Center
L.A.’s largest business organization urges corporate support for local nonprofits

LOS ANGELES, CA – Members of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce recently lent their support to The Salvation Army Red Shield Youth & Community Center, which annually serves 6,000 children and parents in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles. Deloitte LLP provided more than 300 volunteers to paint the center and enhance its community garden. The following week, the Majestic Realty Foundation hosted the graduation ceremony for the Los Angeles Youth Leadership Council (LAYLC) at the Red Shield The L.A. Area Chamber urges its members to support local nonprofits and charities whenever possible, especially in this time of increased need.
“Corporate partners are essential to fulfilling the mission of the Red Shield and so many community organizations,” said Irene De Anda Lewis, executive director of the center. “Working to keep kids in school and empower parents, the Red Shield works together with local business partners so that we can achieve our common goal – a prosperous community.”
On June 5, Deloitte deployed 300 corporate volunteers to paint the entire two-story exterior of The Salvation Army Red Shield Youth & Community Center. The volunteers also planted trees to enhance the community garden for local residents to enjoy. Deloitte’s day of service at the Red Shield was the largest activity in its 10th annual Deloitte IMPACT Day – a national day of volunteer service engaging more than 30,000 professionals in a wide range of community projects nationwide.
On June 8, the Majestic Realty Foundation hosted eighty students and nonprofit leaders to celebrate the accomplishments of LAYLC seniors as part of their year round leadership training. The 22 seniors in the program graduated from 14 different high schools and are headed to colleges across the nation. These student leaders have all participated in the LAYLC which engages students in leadership training, community service, college tours and civic affairs programs throughout the year
