L.A. Area Chamber Announces New Board Members
L.A.’s leading business organization welcomes Time Warner Cable Regional Vice President of Government Affairs, Deane Leavenworth; The Clarett Group Senior Managing Director, Frank Stephan; and Changing.edu President, Alan Arkatov

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce today announced three new appointments to its Board of Directors including: Time Warner Cable regional vice president of government affairs, Deane Leavenworth; The Clarett Group senior managing director, Frank Stephan; and Changing.edu president, Alan Arkatov. The new members accepted their posts and joined the Board at the July 9, 2009 Board of Directors meeting.

Representing one of the nation’s leading cable television, high-speed data and digital phone providers, Deane Leavenworth is regional vice president of government affairs for Time Warner Cable's West Region. Leavenworth leads a team of government affairs professionals engaged in local, state and federal issues impacting the telecommunications industry. Prior to joining Time Warner Cable, Leavenworth held key staff positions with the Los Angeles Mayor's office and the Los Angeles City Council. Leavenworth began his career as a special education teacher and later in the field of non-profit public relations.
As senior managing director of The Clarett Group, Frank Stephan oversees operations, development and construction of the company’s West Coast properties including Blvd6200, Hollywood’s largest mixed-use project anticipated to commence construction in 2010. Prior to launching the firm’s West Coast offices, Stephan oversaw development activities for Sky House, a 55-story, 139-unit condominium community in Manhattan. Stephan has held leadership positions with Bovis Lend Lease, HRH Construction and Herbert Construction Company and managed development for several large-scale urban projects including: 2770 Broadway on Manhattan's Upper West Side; the 42nd Street Theatre Row and Tower; the Phillips Club Hotel; and major department stores for Nordstrom, Filene's and Lord & Taylor.
An innovative education and communications entrepreneur, Alan Arkatov is president of Changing.edu, an organization creating a new framework for educational content and delivery systems by combining the positive aspects of interactive games into PK-12 curriculum. He is a former president and CEO of Burson-Marsteller’s Southern California region and partner and chief strategy officer at The Rogers Group. Alan was a State Commissioner and Chair of the California Postsecondary Education Commission, and an appointee of the U.S. Secretary of Education to the much-heralded Congressional Web Education Commission. He has served as president of the eEducation Group, where he provided strategic counsel to many of the nation’s leading Universities, School Districts and education companies, and was the founder and chairman of OnlineLearning.net, the leading online continuing education provider in the U.S., which he sold to Sylvan Learning Systems. Previously, he helped create and produce the ads for over a dozen successful Mayoral, Gubernatorial, US Senate and Presidential campaigns.
