LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, following Governor Brown’s signing of a balanced, on-time budget, the L.A. Area Chamber releases the following statement:
“We again applaud Governor Brown and the legislature on the fiscal restraint reflected in this budget. Not only does it pay down debt, but also it provides much-needed additional resources for schools,” said Gary Toebben, President & CEO.
“As long-time proponents of a cradle-to-career approach to education as a key ingredient for workforce development and economic prosperity, we applaud the investments to increase access, affordability and quality in education; as well as the additional $300 million investment to meet the needs of our children from birth to age 5 and their families,” Toebben continued. “After a decade of cuts, this budget appropriately reprioritizes early education and will help align early learning to K-12 education, which will maximize student success and help ensure a vibrant economy.”
After the budget deal was announced last week, the Chamber commended the Governor for his inclusion of additional investments in early childhood, K-12, and career and technical education, funds to reduce the education achievement gap for foster youth students, as well as additional funds for the University of California and California State University systems in exchange for commitments that ensure improved system efficiencies and student success.
