LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, following the Governor Jerry Brown signing AB 854 (Weber), the L.A. Area Chamber releases the following statement:
“We applaud Governor Brown and the legislature on their commitment to education policies that benefit some of the most underserved Californians, especially the state’s 60,000 students in foster care,” stated David Rattray, executive vice president of Education and Workforce Development.
“By signing AB 854, the Governor has demonstrated his support for California foster youth. Reforming the funding formula, will enable county offices of education to promote continuity in education among foster youth. Foster youth are often among the most transient and underserved students, so providing them stability in their education will have a powerful impact on their outcomes.”
