LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce announced today that Alan McCorkle, senior vice president of NYK Ports, and Otis Cliatt, president of Pacific Harbor Line, will lead this year’s World Trade Week efforts as chair and vice chair respectively.
For 91 years, World Trade Week, an initiative of the L.A. Area Chamber, has been dedicated to educating the public on the importance of global trade and its contribution to our local, state and national economy. The original week-long observance has grown to more than 30 events, briefings and activities held each year throughout the month of May in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura.
McCorkle and Cliatt will oversee World Trade Week’s 2017 launch during the Chamber's annual Kickoff Breakfast with more than 800 guests on Thursday, May 4, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites. World Trade Week supports college and high school scholarships, high school student workshops, as well as briefings for civic and business leaders interested in benefiting from the global economy.
About Alan McCorkle:
Alan McCorkle is the senior vice president for NYK Ports based in Los Angeles, California. In this role, McCorkle is responsible for managing Container Terminal Operations at the Yusen Terminals facility in the Port of Los Angeles, the Cruise Ship Terminal at the Port of Vancouver, Canada and Auto Operations in Port Hueneme, California. He is responsible for setting strategy and leading a 60-member management team in achieving the safety and efficiency goals of each location. He is also a member of the Policy and Steering Committee for the Center for International Trade and Transportation. In addition, he serves on the Board of the International Trade and Educations Program.
Prior to joining NYK Ports, McCorkle was with the A.P. Moller–Maersk Group for 25 years holding a number of positions of increasing responsibility, including leading the development of the Pier 400 terminal in L.A. and becoming its managing director when the facility opened in 2002. He also served as general manager, APM Terminals (Jamaica) Ltd. in 2004, where he managed all port operations before returning to Southern California and becoming vice president of West Coast Operations in 2005.
McCorkle holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Clemson University, and is a graduate of the Executive Development Programs at Cornell University and IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.
About O. L. (Otis) Cliatt II:
Otis Cliatt was promoted to president of Pacific Harbor Line in October 2012 after joining the company as vice president in July 2010. He has more than 20 years of experience in the railroad industry, specializing in railroad operations, safety and labor relations. Cliatt began his railroad career with the Union Pacific Railroad. His career also includes director and regional vice president with CANAC Inc. He has served on the Board of Directors of the ASLRRA and CSLRA, and on GE Transportation's Customer Advisory Board. He has also served as the chairman of the ASLRRA Veterans Recruitment Committee. Cliatt is a military veteran having served with the U.S. Army's elite Special Forces Command and with the Special Operations Command. Cliatt is a graduate of Florida A&M University and the UCLA Executive Program.
