Mayor Garcetti will join 1,500 business and civic leaders in celebrating installation of 2018 Board Chair Michelle Kerrick and honoring Vilma Martinez, Chris Martin & Southern California Gas Company
LOS ANGELES — Tonight, 1,500 business and civic leaders will come together at the new Intercontinental Los Angeles Downtown hotel to usher in the Chamber’s new Board Chair and honor civic and business leadership during the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce’s 130th annual Inaugural Dinner, presented by Korean Air.
Korean Air is the owner of the new InterContinental hotel and office complex. Korean Air Chairman Y.H. Cho made the decision to build the $1.35 complex in 2010 during a trade mission led by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and organized by the L.A. Area Chamber.
Recognized as the premier business and civic leadership event in Los Angeles, the Inaugural Dinner will celebrate the installation of 2018 Chair of the Board, Michelle Kerrick, managing partner of Deloitte LLP.
“Tonight serves as a rallying point for the Los Angeles business community,” said L.A. Area Chamber President & CEO Gary Toebben. “It’s an opportunity for us to not only formally recognize our successes in 2017 and those who helped us achieve them, but also to look ahead to the work before us in 2018.”
Throughout the evening, the Chamber will recognize outstanding leadership in the community by presenting the prestigious Civic Medal of Honor to former U.S. Ambassador to Argentina, Vilma Martinez; the Distinguished Business Leader award to Chris Martin, CEO & Chairman of AC Martin; and the Corporate Leadership Award to Southern California Gas Company, a Sempra Energy utility.
The Civic Medal of Honor recognizes extraordinary non-elective civic and community service in the region. Martinez joins a distinguished cadre of individuals; past recipients include Vin & Sandy Scully, Warren Christopher, Eli Broad, John Mack, Sherry Lansing, Richard Riordan & Nancy Daly Riordan, Father Gregory Boyle and Stewart Kwoh.
Chris Martin will be presented with the Distinguished Business Leader Award for his extraordinary dedication to business and the community through leadership efforts. Specifically, as head of AC Martin, Martin led the construction of the Wilshire Grand, where this evening’s event will take place.
The Corporate Leadership Award will be presented to Southern California Gas Company, which has demonstrated superior leadership in the long-term economic growth and prosperity of the region.
