The L.A. Area Chamber will present Patrick Soon-Shiong, MD with the Distinguished Business Leader Award at the Jan. 31 Inaugural Dinner
LOS ANGELES — Today, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce announced that it will present its 2019 Distinguished Business Leader Award to Patrick Soon-Shiong, MD.
The owner and executive chairman of both the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union-Tribune newspapers, Dr. Soon-Shiong is a physician, surgeon, scientist, inventor, technologist and philanthropist. He is Chairman and CEO of NantWorks, an ecosystem of companies in a wide variety of complex industries, from science to data, and communication to mobility. He also holds a small ownership stake in the Lakers, operates a cutting-edge biotech laboratory in Culver City and helped L.A. win the bid to host the inaugural GAISF World Urban Games.

Awarded annually to someone who demonstrates extraordinary dedication to business and the community through leadership efforts, the Distinguished Business Leader Award will be presented to Dr. Soon-Shiong at the Chamber’s 131st Annual Inaugural Dinner on Jan. 31, 2019, at the JW Marriott at LA LIVE.
In addition to his many business ventures, Dr. Soon-Shiong is Chairman of the Chan Soon-Shiong Family Foundation and of the Chan Soon-Shiong Institute of Molecular Medicine, a non-profit medical research organization. He co-chairs the CEO Council for Health and Innovation at the Bipartisan Policy Center, is the Executive Director of the UCLA Wireless Health Institute and is a member of the Global Advisory Board of Bank of America. He also is an Adjunct Professor of Surgery at UCLA, a visiting Professor at the Imperial College of London, and a Professor of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics and Professor of Bioengineering at the California NanoSystems Institute of UCLA.
Recognized as the premier business and civic leadership event in Los Angeles, the Inaugural Dinner will take place Thursday, Jan. 31 at JW Marriott at L.A. LIVE, and will also feature the installation of 2019 Chair of the Board, Jerold Neuman of DLA Piper, as well as the presentation of the Civic Medal of Honor to Earvin “Magic” Johnson and the Corporate Leadership Award.
